What happened?
Lee County will break ground on the Fort Myers Beach Pier replacement on Friday, Aug. 21, at Crescent Beach Family Park. The project is expected to take about a year and carries a $14.4 million design-and-construction cost funded through FEMA Public Assistance, Tourist Development Taxes, and RESTORE Act grants. The replacement pier is planned at roughly 1,000 feet long and 12 feet wide, with reinforced concrete piles, a concrete deck, aluminum railings, an entry gate, and shade structures.
