What happened?
Gulf Coast News Now reports a Lee County man, Jamarius Causey, 33, was arrested after deputies say he chased two people with a sword and later hit one of them with a shovel.
According to the reported Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, deputies were called to a home about a disturbance involving two victims who were staying in a shed behind the residence.
The wild timeline deputies described
The report says one victim went into the main residence around 1:50 a.m. to heat up a donut, heard a voice she recognized as “Jam,” and got into a verbal confrontation. Deputies say the situation escalated when the other victim entered and Causey allegedly armed himself with a sword, chased them, and threatened to kill them.
The victims reportedly ran back to the shed and called 911. Deputies say Causey had left by the time they arrived.
Later that morning, the woman allegedly woke up in the shed with Causey on top of her holding a shovel. The other victim had a head injury and later told deputies he woke to severe pain, put his hands up, and caught a shovel.
How deputies say they found him
Gulf Coast News Now reports Causey allegedly fled in a black pickup truck with flames on the side. Deputies later identified him, used a license plate reader to find the truck’s last known location, and determined he had GPS monitoring through home-confinement orders.
He was arrested and faces reported charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony battery.
Why it matters
This is a serious allegation, but also one of the strangest Lee County crime reports of the week: a sword threat, a shovel attack, a shed, a flame-painted truck, and a GPS-monitoring trail all in one case.
